He was born in Mercer, Maine on Aug. 18, 1935, the son of Harold M. Wing and Isabell (Ladd) Hardy Wing. He worked in the woods with his father at an early age. Maynard served 7 years in the Maine National Guard. He worked at Norrwock Shoe, Solon Manufacturing and retired from New Balance Shoe in 1998.
Maynard was married to Joanne Vining on July 29, 1953 until she passed away on Dec. 24, 1981. Many years later, Maynard married Dawn (Norton) Magee on June 24, 2017.
He enjoyed the old country and bluegrass music. He loved sitting around a fire, hunting, fishing, camping, reading Louis L’Amour books, going to the coast, cutting wood (boy did he love his chainsaw!). He enjoyed ATVing, and going for drives. Most of all, he loved visits with family and friends.
Maynard is survived by his wife of five years, Dawn Wing of Madison; his daughter, Debbie Holtan of Martinez, CA; sons Lyle Wing (Dodie) of Litchfield; the Rev. Dell Wing (Pam) of Madison; and Dana Wing (Lauren) of Riverview, FL.; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; his sisters Julia Bishop (Richard) of Anson; and Eleanor Dean (Norman) of Madison and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his first wife, he was predeceased by his half-brother Charles E. Hardy, Sr., and half-sister Rozilla (Hardy) Wilson.
Arrangements were entrusted to Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine. In honoring our father’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A graveside service will be held in the spring for family and close friends, at Lowell Cemetery in Chesterville with his son, the Rev. Dell Wing officiating.
