He was born August 15, 1923, in Lebanon, Indiana, the son of Harry West and Mary (Dale) West.
Jack served in the US Army during WWII. He was in the Northwest District helping to make sure supplies got through to Alaska.
He owned and operated Nursery Fotos in Costa Mesa, California, for thirty years. He also taught adult education at community college in Basic Photography.
Jack was a Mason and a Shriner for many years, a member of the VFW and the American Legion, and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
He was a private pilot who loved to fly his own planes, a Culver Cadet and a SeaRey. He and his wife Mary drove cross country from Maine to California and back for 16 years. Jack was also an avid collector of Tom Mix memorabilia.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of 19 years of Norridgewock; his step-daughter Kathy Vasquez and her husband Dennis of Hemet, CA, his step-son Kevin McNulty of Landers, CA; two step-grandsons, “Capt.” Maxwell Matthewson and his wife Jess of Corona, CA, Phillip Vasquez of Hemet, CA; a step- great-grandson CJ Matthewson of Corona, CA; cousin Valerie Sirois of Norridgewock, and a nephew Tom West of Healdsburg, CA.
A memorial service will be held on Friday October 6, 2017 at 5 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
