He was born September 17, 1942 in Skowhegan, Maine, the son of Joseph A. and Bertha (Cayouette) Barker.
George graduated from Skowhegan High School in the class of 1960; he then received his associate degree in business from the Skowhegan Business School.
He owned and operated George’s Sports Shop in Skowhegan in the 1970’s. His final and most rewarding job was at Uplift in Gardiner working with adults will intellectual disabilities.
He was an avid tennis player and involved with the Lakewood Clay Court Association. As a younger adult he enjoyed boating and water skiing and years ago he would take some of the famous actors who visited Lakewood Theater out boating and water skiing.
George leaves a son; Jeff Barker and his wife Tricia of Wells, his grandsons Cameron and Blake Barker of Wells.
He was predeceased by his mom and dad and his twin sister Mary A Barker
Visiting hours will be held on Friday August 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards Funeral home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine, a funeral service will be held on Saturday August 16, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with a committal to follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Skowhegan, Maine.
Donations may be made in place of flowers in George’s memory to the Morrison Center, 60 Chamberlain Rd, Scarborough, Maine 04074.
