She was born October 15, 1959 in Skowhegan, Maine, the daughter of Galen L. and Joan M. (Laney) Cooley.
Deborah graduated from Skowhegan High School in the class of 1977. While in high school she played field hockey and softball. She also belonged to the National Honor Society and she graduated with honors. She attended college in the fall of 1977 and received her Bachelors’ degree in Education from the University of Maine at Orono in the spring of 1981. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and a member of the Who’s Who in College. Deborah was married on June 19th, 1982 to Randy Wright. Deborah later furthered her education and received an endorsement in special education. Deborah was employed as a teacher in the SAD # 49 school district before stepping down in 1992 to care for her son Brady Wright.
She enjoyed fishing, boating, going camping, crocheting, knitting, and watching baseball, football and NASCAR. She loved the time she spent with her family and especially her four grandchildren.
She is survived by her two sons; Brent Wright and his companion Megan Libby of Skowhegan, Brian Wright of Skowhegan, her father Galen Cooley and his wife Sharon of Canaan, her companion of 8 years; Bruce Smith of Skowhegan, the father of her children Randy Wright of Cornville, one sister Gale-Lynn Ashe and her wife Trisha of Leominster, MA, one brother Michael Cooley and his wife Cheral of Canaan, her grandchildren; Gabrielle, Mason, McKenzie and Lydia, her niece Ericka Cooley, her nephew Derek Cooley both of Canaan, her aunts and uncles Gary and Joan Laney of Skowhegan and Richard and Carol Turner of Canaan, many cousins and special friends.
She was predeceased by her mother Joan, her son Brady Wright and a very special aunt, Doris Laney.
Viewing hours will be held on Sunday November 23, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday November 24, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Water St., Skowhegan, Maine, with the burial to follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Skowhegan, Maine.
