It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Willie Edward Thompson on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on March 27. 1947, in Davisboro, Georgia, to the late Lovett Allen II and Vera Thompson, Willie moved to Hoboken, NJ at age 6 and later to Jersey City, where he spent most of his life.
Willie proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967. His time in the military was a formative period in his life where he learned values of discipline, perseverance, and service to his country. After his service, he pursued higher education, beginning with undergraduate studies at Jersey City State College and later earning his medical degree from Howard University School of Medicine.
For over 40 years, Dr. Thompson dedicated his life to orthopedic surgery, where his skill, compassion, and commitment to his patients made a lasting impact. Willie viewed his work not just as a profession but as a calling-a calling he answered with integrity, care, and a genuine desire to help others.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Willie was a beloved father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. His family was everything to him, and he found joy in simple moments, whether traveling, sharing laughter, or enjoying the theater. Spending time with his daughters, Margie and Heather was something he cherished deeply.
Willie is now reunited with his parents, his grandparents, his siblings Floyd, AI Jeffrey, Lovett III, Donald, Bernice, Pauline, Annette, and his daughter, Margie Sonora Johnson. Though his time with us was far too short, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, surrounded by those who loved him.
He is survived by his daughter Heather, his sister Imogene, four grandsons, a great-grandson, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his best friend, Harry Calfee. Willie's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched through his work.
