On July 29, 2017, Virginia M. "Ginny" Bouvier of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved wife of James Lyons. Loving mother of Maya Bouvier-Lyons. Loving sister of Edouard, Dianne, Nicole, Joseph, Daniel, and David Bouvier. Dear daughter of Edouard Bouvier and Jane Mansfield Bouvier.
Ginny was a graduate of Wellesley College, Class of 1980, and earned her doctorate in Latin American studies at the University of California, Berkeley. She devoted most of her professional life to working for peace and justice in Latin America, first at the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) and later at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), where she was a Senior Advisor for Peace Processes. Ginny also worked as an assistant professor of Latin American literature and culture at the University of Maryland, and most recently an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Center for Latin American Studies. For the past decade, she worked tirelessly to promote peace in Colombia, a nation at civil war for over 50 years. She was honored to be invited by President Santos to witness the signing of the Colombian peace accords last year. Ginny was a loving mother and wife who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, day trips to the Eastern Shore, and collecting recipes for her family cookbook.
Visitation will be held at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD, on Sunday, August 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, 3315 Greencastle Rd., Burtonsville, MD, on Monday, August 7, at 11 a.m.
