Virginia Bacon passed peacefully on January 28, 2024. Born Virginia Lee Taylor on February 12, 1930 in Norfolk, VA, daughter of Mills H. Taylor, Sr. and Margaret Beil Taylor. She is survived by her daughters Joyce (Keith) Matney and Carolyn (Dennis) Rude; granddaughters Kelley Matney, Rachel (Michael Campbell) Matney and Meg Rude, a great-granddaughter, Eleanor, as well as nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John (Jack) Bacon, her parents, her brother, Mills H. Taylor, Jr. and sister, Margaret Taylor Mangus.
Jack and Viginia married in August 1952 and were together until Jack’s death in 2014. She was a teaching assistant specializing in reading for Montgomery County Public Schools for 22 years, retiring in 1992.
Virginia was a member of Good Shepherd UMC in Silver Spring since 1964, teaching Sunday School and involved with United Methodist Women. She joined the church choir and sang until her declining health made it a challenge for her to attend. She treasured her church friends.
Friends may call at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, on February 21, 2024 from 3 pm – 7 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held on February 22, 2024 at 11:00 am at Good Shepherd UMC, 9701 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20903. Interment is private.
