Terry Alwyn Burns of Kahoka, Missouri, passed away at the age of 87 at Riderwood Village Long Term Care facility early Thanksgiving morning, November 23rd, 2023. She was born August 2nd, 1936, the daughter of David and Maureen McLaughlin. She married Thomas Albert Burns, of Memphis Missouri, on September 4th, 1955. Terry attended the University of Missouri for two years, as a nursing student. She traveled extensively with Tom, during his time as an Officer in the Air Force. She was a Rainbow Girl, an active member of P.E.O for 44 years, and a 50-plus year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was very involved in the Colesville United Methodist Church, singing in two choirs, and as a member of the Methodist Women and the Literary groups. Terry loved her friends and spending time with family, attending each and every event her grandchildren participated in. In addition to her spouse of 67 years, Terry was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen McLaughlin who died July 5th, 2008, sons, David Elza Burns who died in infancy, and James Stephen Burns, on December 12, 2017, at the age of 59. She is survived by her daughter Laura and son-in-law Terry, son Kevin, grandchildren Colin and his wife Cassie, Kaila, Erin and Kari, and great grandson Hayden. Terry was known and loved by many friends and family, and always demonstrated Christian love and concern for everyone she met.
Friends and family may gather at Coleville United Methodist Church (52 Randolph Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20904) On January 20, 2024 from 10:30-11AM. Terry's Celebration of Life will occur at 11AM followed by light luncheon.
