Shiu Wan Lee Wong passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023. She is survived by her husband of over 66 years, Kam Chuen Wong; four children, Anita Wong, Usula Wong, Ching Ingalla (Rolly), Ted Wong (Alice); eight grandchildren, Jennifer Meadows (Lonnie), Nicole Wong (Liran Garber), Bryan Lee (Shelly), Brittany Lewis (Kyle), Sydney McIver (Patrick), Lilly Wong, Bailey Ingalla, Michael Wong; and eleven great-grandchildren, Tyece Meadows, Leila Meadows, Penelope Lewis, Adelyn Lewis, Patton Lewis, Ayden Lee, Miya Garber, Christopher Lewis, Charli McIver, Gabriel Garber, Emma Lee. She is predeceased by her parents, Mon Chung Wong and Yuk Ping Chan.
Born in China, she was known as Gim Tew by her family and friends. Her family moved to Hong Kong and Gim Tew married Kam Chuen Wong in 1957 and had four children. She, along with the children, emigrated to the United States in November, 1972 as Kam was already in the United States. She was very strong willed and would not let language be a barrier. Determined to be self-sufficient, she took English classes and received her driver’s license and became a United States citizen. While raising her children, she worked at her father’s restaurant, New Buddha, for many years until it closed. She then worked as a seamstress until 1981, when she, with her husband, opened China Boy, a very successful rice noodle business. This was a natural progression for her, as her father was in the restaurant business, and she was well known for all the delicious foods she made. She would always teach people how to make different dishes. Working tirelessly, they ran the business until 2005, when they finally sold the business and retired.
Gim Tew was a very generous, loving and caring person. She was very giving and always thought of others. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She had many other talents, in addition to cooking…she was a seamstress, a crocheter and knitter. She made many articles of clothing for her children. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved them all dearly and always enjoyed spending time with them. She would often tease with friends that she had more great grandchildren then they had. There will be a tremendous void in those that were fortunate enough to have known her. She will be dearly missed by her large family and even larger circle of friends.
