She is survived by an elder sister, Maria Soledad Martinez and four children, Maria Torres, Mario A. Martinez, Olga D. Sánchez and Lombar P. Martinez.
She was born on June 11th, 1938 in La Unión in southern El Salvador. Ms. Martinez arrived in the United States in 1969, as most immigrants, seeking a better life for herself and her four children. She lived in Washington, DC for 37 years and moved to Adelphi, Maryland in 2005 where she had lived for the past 18 years. She worked in the hospitality industry for 29 years until her retirement in 2003.
Ms. Martinez was a woman of faith and was a very active church member of the Pentecostal faith for about 25 years. In her spare time she loved to cook and to study the word of God. She also loved to spend time with her children whenever they came to see her. She will be remembered by many of those who knew her for her gentle smile and kindness. To her children she meant the world. She will be remembered by them as a heroine who raised four children and made many sacrifices in order to give them a better life.
