Mr. Nicholas Buhay of Silver Spring, MD passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, with his family by his side. He was 77 years old. Born in Ashland, PA on December 5, 1945, he was the son of Mary and Charles Buhay. Proud to have been among those raised in Centralia, PA, Nicky also lived in New York City and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Captain Nicholas Buhay proudly served in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve for 25 years, including tours of duty in Vietnam and the Gulf War. As a civilian, Nicholas was a dedicated and hard working man who worked for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for over 40 years as Deputy Director for the Division of Manufacturing & Product Quality. He lived in service to others, always providing care, mentorship, and witty humor to all.
A devoted family man, Nicholas loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandson. Nicholas was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers, Charles Jr. and Thomas. Surviving are his wife, Marta; two brothers, Harry and Walter; his sister, Sister Thomas; his daughter, Mariestela; his son, John and his grandson, Charlie, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and countless cousins.
The Buhay family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, from 4:00pm-8:00pm at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD. A funeral mass and burial will take place for family and close friends in late June at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, located on North Paxton Street, Centralia, PA.
