Nancy Snyderman Rose died at home on April 8, 2024, at the age of 77. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Nancy married Joseph Rose in 1967 and lived with him for 56 amazing years in Washington, DC, the U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Thomas), Montgomery County (Chevy Chase and North Bethesda), and Milton, DE. A graduate of Temple University, she served as a policy analyst at the U.S. Department of Labor for more than three decades and became a prolific and accomplished painter after her retirement in 2003. She had a strong and vibrant personality and was beloved by many.
In addition to her beloved husband Joe, Nancy is survived by her dear sister Lynn (Michael) Falkove, devoted children Daniel (Laura Segal) Rose and Abigail (James) Sayegh, and grandchildren Clementine and Vivienne Sayegh and Jonathan and Samantha Rose – whom she adored and regarded as the light of her life – and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Nancy treasured her memories of growing up with a close extended family, including grandparents Molly ("Tiny Mommy") and Harry Schop, parents Pearl and Lou Snyderman, and aunts Rose Brill, Esther Snyderman, and Sylvia Kaminsky, to name just a few. She often recounted how those in her grandparents' generation immigrated to the United States, some narrowly escaping the holocaust, and sought to pass their legacy on to her children, grandchildren, and future generations.
Nancy's passions included the performing arts, painting, classic movies, live music (especially doo-wop, Motown, R&B, folk, blues, and Rock & Roll), and she delighted in decorating her homes, nurturing her plants and garden, and spending time with friends and family. She loved to dance and sing, especially with Joe, and was known for her beautiful smile, friendliness, and acumen as a fashionista and bargain shopper. Nancy had a joie de vivre that could animate a party or make everyday tasks and events into a reason to celebrate.
She believed deeply in social justice and civil rights, participated in the anti-Vietnam war movement, and, in her professional, life sought to expand employment opportunities for young people facing structural disadvantages. In 1996, she earned an award for Distinguished Career Service from the U.S. Department of Labor.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, at Temple Shalom, 8401 Grubb Rd., Chevy Chase, MD 20815. Interment to follow at King David Memorial Gardens in Falls Church, VA. The family will receive friends at Nancy and Joe's home after the internment, and from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12 and 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, www.orcahope.org.
