Mary Flanagan Michel of Silver Spring, Maryland died peacefully in the early hours of Sunday August 8, 2021. Mary was born in New Rochelle, New York on September 2, 1941 to John Brooks Flanagan and Mary Scott Cochrane. Mary studied elementary education at the State University of New York at Oswego and later earned a Masters of Education in Human Development at the University of Maryland. Mary taught elementary school for 23 years in Montgomery County Public Schools at Georgetown Hill Elementary and New Hampshire Estates Elementary. Mary later studied kinesiology, psychotherapy, yoga, dance and worked as a massage therapist for several years before retirement. Mary was a member of Christ Congregational Church in Silver Spring, worshipping with the community there for over 50 years.
Mary is survived by her son Philip Michel and his wife Cynthia, grandchildren Jenna Michel, Erin Michel, and Philip “Nick” Michel and great-granddaughter Eleni Michel Gaitan. Mary is also survived by her brother John Brooks Flanagan of Leominster, MA and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
