Kyung Hie Pearl (Lyu) Kim, age 93, of Olney, Maryland went to sleep in Jesus on Monday, May 27, 2024. Kyung Hie was born in Seoul, South Korea. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She emigrated to the US in 1956 to further her education at Washington Adventist University and graduated with her BS in nursing in 1961. She got married in 1959 to Gunhyuk and then began to raise a family.
She worked as a registered nurse for many years, first at Providence Hospital and then at the National Naval Medical Center until she retired in 1993. She was loved by many for being a wonderful nurse who listened and truly cared about her patients and was commended by her superiors for the same.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Gunhyuk, 3 daughters - Joyce (Stuart) Yoon, Anita (Dosung) Kim, Christine Kim, and 7 grandchildren - Benjamin, Melanie, Ryan (Rocio), Samantha, Michael, Justin, and Natalie - all who loved spending time with her
She will always be remembered for her infectious smile and laugh, her love of playing games, her persevering spirit and even when things got tough, she would choose to laugh instead of cry. She was always kind to everyone and her spirit of hospitality extended to everyone she met! She loved to travel and was able to visit many countries throughout the world - even up into her 90s.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 15 , at 3 pm at the Washington -Spencerville Korean SDA church, 15930 Good Hope Rd, Silver Spring, MD. Graveside service will be at 1pm on Sunday, June 16 at Norbeck Memorial Park, 16225 Batchellors Forest Road, Olney, MD.
