Joanne was born and raised in Arlington, Massachusetts. She married Curtis F. Elie, with whom she had four children. The family moved to Montgomery County, Maryland, where she lived for the rest of her life.
Joanne worked for the Montgomery County Department of Aging, driving an Elderly bus. She later went on to become a licensed real estate agent, working out of the Olney RE/MAX office. In 2005, she and Curt retired to Leisure World in Silver Spring, Maryland.
She was a loving and devoted mother to her four children. Her sense of humor kept us all laughing. She never met a stranger. An avid local sports fan, Joanne was at home rooting for her favorite team no matter the outcome. She was never one to be discouraged and always stuck by her teams on and off the field. She was devoted to her grandchildren, often serving as daycare, or “Nannie-Care”.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis F. Elie, sister, Jane Spelman, brother, Robert Bowser, daughter-in-law, Alison R. Elie, and son-in-law, Michael K. Neady. She is survived by her siblings, Edward and Swan; her children, John and wife, Julie, Thomas and wife Shannon, Kathleen and late husband Michael, and Mark and late wife Alison; her grandchildren, Christopher, Kyle, Hannah, Shane, Colin, Brendan, Ryan, Michael, Christina, Nicholas, and Madison; and her 8 great-grandchildren
