Helen L. Nine who entered eternal life on Friday, February 1, 2019, would have a use for it! Helen, born on August 23, 1927, was the daughter of the late John and Lena (Shaffer) Bachtel from Red House MD. Helen’s spirit is carried on by her 3 grandchildren, Tayler, Tyler and Travis Nine, her two daughter-in-law’s, Karen and Judy Nine, and her son Philip Nine. Helen will now be joining her husband of 50 years, Robert Nine, her daughter, Beverly Nine, and son, James Nine. In addition, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Patricia Bachtel Ryland, and Grace Maria Ault, and brothers, Harold Van Bachtel, John Lee Bachtel, and Bernard Keith Bachtel.
Everyone that was blessed with the presence of Helen knew what a kind and giving person she was. Although she did not have much, she would give you the shirt off her back. She would open her door to anyone and everyone at any time of the day. She did this out of love, not out of obligation or reward. She continuously followed the ways of the Lord and because of that she was a beautiful example of a disciple and always had faith in everything she did.
If she was not doing something for someone else, you would find Helen in her garden planting or picking some of the finest fruit and vegetables to be canned and stocked for the following year (or years to come). She also enjoyed cooking and eating some of her favorite fish, perch and catfish.
Helen enjoyed being surrounded by her family, especially her late sister and best friend, Patty Ryland. They enjoyed their time together and all the long hour conversations spent chatting on the phone. She enjoyed gathering together for family events held in her home town Oakland Maryland. Anytime she had the chance to visit, she was on the road as quick as she could be.
After 91 years of life, Helen has some wise lessons to live by: always keep an open door with a warm welcome, always be present at church on Sunday, always keep food on the table, always treat friends like family and always keep the bacon grease!
Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them, in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4:17
