Frank Andrew Gladden, Sr. of Silver Spring, Maryland formerly of Winnsboro, South Carolina passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Hillhaven in Adelphi, Maryland.
Frank was born January 27, 1933 to the late Frank Freeman Gladden and Mary Alice Hall Gladden. He was raised in South Carolina and moved to Maryland when he joined the Air Force in 1951. He served at Andrews Air Force Base in Camp Springs, Maryland and also went to Japan during his tour of duty and was active duty Air Force from 1951-1955.
After service he obtained both a Bachelors and Masters of Business Administration from Federal City College in Washington, D.C. He was an avid writer and poet and was published many times over. He loved storytelling, writing, his poetry, fishing, his family and his faith in God and devoted his life to all of them. He worked for the Department of Commerce for more than 30 years. He and his wife of 58 years Vivial Washington Gladden attended Colesville Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland from 1978 to 2017.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister Willie Mae Gladden Adams, two brothers Thomas Gladden and Eugene Gladden, his grandson Frank Andrew Gladden, III, his grandson Jason Inman, and his great granddaughter Nevaeh Grimes.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Vivial Washington Gladden, his son Frank “Frankie”Andrew Gladden, II (LaJuan) of Bowie, MD, his daughter Donna Gladden Inman, of White Oak MD, his son Kenneth Gladden (Faith), of Hurst, TX, and his daughter Andrea Gladden of Adelphi, MD. He also leaves 14 grandchildren: Terrance Snyder, Timothy Gladden, Tineya Walker, Tierra Gladden, Tamika Lewis, Tessa Blakeney, Marlene Coleman, Arnita Young, Dwayne Inman, Brandon Inman, Deion Gladden, Sr., Destiny Gladden, and Donovan Gladden. He leaves 29 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. He also leaves his brother Melvin Gladden (Hazel) of Sumpter, SC, his sister Carolyn Gladden Waddell (Jimmie) of Spartanburg, SC, three sisters-in-law Martha Gladden wife of the late Thomas Gladden, Norma Gladden wife of the late Eugene Gladden and Miriam Adofo (Sam) sister of Frank’s wife Vivial, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and too many friends to name. He will be tremendously missed by all who knew him.
The entire Gladden family would like to extend our sincerest thanks and gratitude to our extended family, friends, and supportive community for all of the flowers, phone calls, and texts. We love you all! We would also like to thank Colesville Baptist Church for allowing us to have the memorial here and for providing the food for the repast immediately following the service to which all are invited.
