in Detroit, Michigan on March 8, 1926 to Houston and Bonnie Glover. The love of her life,
Charles “Chuck” predeceased her on February 20, 2007. She had been receiving treatments for
non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma since 2010.
Dr. Young retired from the University of Maryland, College Park, College of Agriculture and
Natural Resources, University of Maryland Extension, as the State Leader for Home Economics
and 4-H on June 30, 1995 after 24 years in UME. She retired as State Leader for both Home
Economics and 4-H, a position she held for 9 years. She was very involved in opening the
current Maryland 4-H Center and didn’t miss the State Fair, along with multiple County Fairs
during her tenure. Prior to her state joint leader role, Dr. Young was the State Leader for Home
Economics, prior to that she was a Textiles and Clothing Specialist for UME, and prior to that,
she taught clothing in the Home Economics Department on campus. She had a strong love for
UMD/AGNR/UME. She continued that love by attending performances at Clarice Smith
Performing Arts Center, UMD Alumni Association events and football /basketball games.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Young, son-in-law Eric Freund, sister, Carolyn,
nieces Darlene and Diane, a great niece, Samantha, several cousins and many close friends. Her
youngest daughter Hildred Young, passed away on July 13, 2007 of ovarian cancer.
