I just heard about this news and had no idea. I’m grateful for Mr. Bayz and everything he taught me. He challenged us and made us really think. As an educator myself now I appreciate the great teachers who made a difference in my life and hope I do the same with my students. RIP. 🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾

Thank you for saving my life in 9th grade, Mr. Bayz. I remember seeing you for the last time taking my SAT and SAT II writing tests in 12th grade. You helped save so many of us in the 90s, and I hope that Jesus blesses you and your family forever. All it took was the care and concern during my adolescent years, the exigency of responding to one depressive journal entry, to eventually get me the life-saving support that I really needed by 10th grade. You were nothing less than an angel. I wish you eternal life in the name of Rebbe Melech HaMosiasch Yehoshua. <3 

And all who come to pay their respects. If it weren't for you acting when you did to take my journal entry to a guidance counselor at Northwestern HS, I might not be here to share my story. I looked you up in hopes of relaying this good news, but sadly, too late. You were a hero to so many children, and Jesus will never forget that. Sunrise: TBA 

Mr. Bayz was my first teacher in the US--11th grade homeroom. He made the school a safe space for new immigrant students, especially introverted students. Later, he would give me a ride to UMD in his taxi. He loved to talk. We talked about literature, culture, politics, church, really anything my parents didn’t talk about. He was tickled that I ended up working at the English department at UMD. He was one of those teachers who had a huge impact on my life. I’m thankful for having known him.

Dino drove my brother, Paul Rice, in his cab for years. Paul was blind and hard of hearing as was his wife, Margaret. Dino was always courteous and so good to my brother. We lost contact with him, I believe when he was ill at some point & Paul was also less able to travel.
Paul really respected Dino and had such fond memories of their time together. Thank you, Dino..you made my brother so happy being his friend.

Mr Bayz was my 10th Grade English teacher. Many in my class are remembering him on Facebook. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

I am just crushed to hear this.  I was Dino's principal at Northwestern for over 7 years.  He was an amazing teacher, so full of love, kindness and genuine wisdom.  I still remember the private tours of St. Sophia's during the Greek Festivals there.  It was in their sanctuary that we decided to name my daughter, Sophia.  She enters her senior year in college next Fall.  I am so saddened we fell out of touch after I moved home to Pennsylvania.  He is remembered fondly and with great respect.

Thank you Mr Bayz for fostering my English literature love and helping me throughout my crazy awkward freshman year of high school. I've thought of you often.  

I taught in the English department with Dino for a short while at Northwestern during what was an extremely difficult year that saw the health emergency of my small daughter where I had to balance work, family, and daily visits to DC to care for my child.  He was kind, welcoming, and humorous at work, and made me feel welcome and valued.  We planned together, and he supported me in my exhaustion and desire to succeed.  Later, Dino substituted at Laurel High while I was there and it was lovely to reconnect.  He was one of the kindest people I have ever known. My condolences to all the family.

The best English teacher I ever had- he inspired my love of writing and made me laugh almost every day.  He had this wry sense of humor and never took himself too seriously.   The cab driver on the side gig was the cherry on top.   He was one in a million.

Thank you for having taught me how to tie a Windsor knot for my neck tie when that was on style (so many decades ago ) , for being such  a great friend to my dad , to me and our family , 
for many many years .
Thank you for your many phone calls over the years , of great stories to share and to offer moral support in  agape love at a very specific hard time . 
You were a very good and special man.
