CARL BRADLEY NORWOOD Carl Bradley Norwood of Olney, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 3, 2017. Carl leaves behind his beloved wife of 34 years, Jan Welch Norwood and his daughters, Mary Catherine Norwood-Lewis, Alison Welch Hughes (Seamus) and Bradley Marie Norwood, and other much loved family. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at HINES-RINALDI FUNERAL HOME, 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 9 at 10 am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 2900 Olney-Sandy Spring Rd., Olney, MD 20832. Carl was born on August 29, 1948 in Takoma Park, MD to the late Charles Stanley Norwood and Alice Carwithen Norwood. He graduated from Wheaton High School in 1966 and immediately began a Bookbinding Apprenticeship which led to a well-loved career spanning 50 years, until his retirement in June 2016. He lived in Maryland his entire life, settling in Olney in 1983, where he was an active member of the community. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church where he sat on the Parish Council, served as a Eucharistic Minister and was also involved in their youth athletics program. In 2003, he became the assistant coach of the Sherwood Women’s Lacrosse Team and spent 13 seasons coaching, motivating and charming his teams. On a sunny summer day, you could almost always find Carl floating in his pool, while reading the daily news. He and his family spent numerous summers vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. These memories were special to Carl because they included his closest family and friends. Carl leaves behind his beloved wife of 34 years, Jan Welch Norwood, and his three daughters, Mary Catherine Norwood-Lewis, Alison Welch Hughes and her husband Seamus, and Bradley Marie Norwood. He also leaves behind his siblings Charles Norwood Jr. (Lynn), Karen Thompson (Jeff), and Faye Norwood, his grandchildren Lexi Lewis and Declan Hughes, and many well-loved aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews and dear friends. The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Wednesday March 8th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20904. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday March 9th at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 2900 Olney-Sandy Spring Road, Olney, MD 20832.
