Verna Irene Davis, age 87, of Sikeston, died Sunday, March 27, 2016, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Born February 8, 1929, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Alton G. and Mary Williams Cox, she was a homemaker. In her younger years she was a Sunday school teacher and also served in the church bus ministry. She later became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sikeston. On January 2, 1945, in Sikeston, she married Bobby J. Davis, who preceded her in death on March 19, 2004.
Survivors include: one son, Joseph D. Davis of Sikeston; one daughter, Mary E. Davis of Sikeston; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Doug and Rosetta Cox of the state of Texas and Joe and Terrie Yant of Morehouse; three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Alton Davis, two brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be held from 5pm-8pm on Monday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm on Tuesday, March 29, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with President Jackie Calbert, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston, under the direction of Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
Pallbearers will be: Jordan Davis, Waylin Martin, Julie Davis, Tim Parkman, Brad Clark and Adam Knoeppel.
