Novella Yates

Novella M. Yates, age 91, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Sikeston, died June 19, 2016, at the Northcrest Nursing Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Born August 6, 1924, in Hartman, Ark., to the late James and Rose Hale Miller, she was a homemaker. On December 1, 1944, in Sikeston, she married Robert Yates, who preceded her in death in 1979.

Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Lawana and Bill Savin of Council Bluffs and Barbara Ann and Carl Poehlman of Ocala, Fla.; one sister, Odessa Jones of Morley; and three grandchildren, Tres Johnson and Robyn Johnson, both of Council Bluffs, and Sam Poehlman of Cape Girardeau.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Gladys Miller, Ferrell Miller, Odell Miller and Collie Miller; and two sisters, Jewell Bennett and Connie Havner.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016, in the Nunnelee Chapel, with Rev. Kelley Grubbs, pastor of the Murray Lane Baptist Church in Sikeston, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Albert Jones, David Jones, Ron Miller, Lyle Miller, Roy Miller and Roger Bennett.
