Jimmy was born October 2, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Harry Flavel Green and Roxie Lampley Green.
He graduated from Ferguson High School in 1955. He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia on a track and field scholarship, where he was a decorated high jumper. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1959.
Following college, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1960 until honorably discharged in 1963. He served in the Army Security Agency as a cryptanalyst and spent two years stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Upon conclusion of his military service he returned home to St. Louis and spent the next three decades as a teacher for the Ferguson-Florissant School District. He was a physical education and health teacher, and also coached track and cross-country. Most of his career was spent at Cross Keys Middle School in Florissant. He retired in 1991.
He stayed active in retirement and his hobbies included golfing, fishing and camping.
He is survived by two sons, Brian Green and Boyd (Laura) Green, and two grandchildren, Andrew and Adam Green, all of Sikeston, Missouri, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his two siblings, Patty Louise Harmon and Johnny Ray Green.
Visitation will be held at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, Missouri on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a memorial service immediately following.
