Born September 28, 1923, in Brighton, Tn to the late Grover and Lora Glass Armstrong. On May 16, 2002 he married Mable Hopper in Benton, Mo who survives of the home. James was a member of 1st Baptist Church since 1979. He served in the US Navy from 1941 until 1946 and was a Gunners Mate during World War ll. He also served in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations from January 1943 until January 1946 and in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. James retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone.
In addition to his wife other survivors include one son and daughter in law; James W. and Judy Armstrong of Sikeston, 1 grandchild and 2 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Tuesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday, November 14, burial will follow at Garden of Memories.
Rev. Ted Wimberley of New Bethel Baptist Church will officiate.
