Jackie Lee Baker Herndon, age 72, of Sikeston, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family. Born January 12, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, MO, to the late Joseph L. and Emma Lee Carson Baker; she was a graduate of the Sikeston High School Class of 1964. She graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She went on to obtain a Masters of Business of Administration from William Woods University. She married Terry Michael Herndon, her high school sweet heart, on June 27, 1969 at Webb AFB in Big Spring, Texas.
To carry on her memories are her two children, Jared (Leslie) Herndon of Sikeston, and Heather (Clay) Sloan of St. Louis, MO; one sister, Jane Anne Baker of Sikeston; three grandchildren, Megan Herndon of Little Rock, Arkansas; Nicholas and William Sloan of St. Louis, MO; two great-granddaughters, Emaleigh and Madelyn Ruedrich of East Prairie, MO; and many special friends and family.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Terry Herndon, and sister, Jerry Mae Baker Splinter.
Jackie was a faithful and dedicated member of First United Methodist Church. She believed in missions and volunteered tirelessly. She shared God’s light in times of need through her Sunday School Class, the Lamplighters. She also served as Chair of the Finance Committee, member of the Care Team, and other committees as needed. She was influential with the Mozambique initiative as a sister church.
Jackie was a 50+ year member of Chapter HB, PEO (a Philanthropic Educational Organization); served on the board for The Christian Academy (TCA); and chaired the Sikeston Area Habitat for Humanity.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, April 15, 2019 from 12:00pm until time of memorial service at 2:00pm at First United Methodist Church in Sikeston. A private interment at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield will be held on Tuesday, April 16.
