George Griffin McWhirter, 62, of Sikeston, died June 23, 2014, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Born March 4, 1952, in New Madrid County, to the late Thomas Cleburn and Dessie Nola McWhirter, he had been employed by Bob Lowe’s Salvage. On September 1, 1984, in Sikeston, he married Ladonna Lynn “Candy” McWhirter, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two sons, Mark Anthony McWhirter and Matthew Gene McWhirter, both of Sikeston; one daughter, Candice Diane McWhirter of Sikeston; two brothers, Aronald Ray McWhirter of Benton and John William McWhirter of Matthews; and two sisters, Patsy Gail Dozier of Searcy, Ark., and Connie Lou Hardin of Conway, Ark. Other survivors include two special grandchildren, Taylor James Tipton and Kourtni Erinlynn Tipton; four additional grandchildren, Victoria Danielle McWhirter, Alexandria Nichole McWhirter, Kavin Lapaul Holland and Lindsey Nichole Powell; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a host of other beloved family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Lee McWhirter, Donald Jean McWhirter and Lonnie Vester McWhirter.
A gathering and time of reflection for family and friends will be held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, June 27, at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
