He was born on December 2, 1938, in Stoddard County to the late Donald C. and Virginia L. Long Thorne.
On October 3, 1958, in Cairo, IL he married Dakoka Ann Stacy Thorne who preceded him in death on April 27, 2022.
He was drafted into the United States Army in 1962.
He was a deacon at the Gray Ridge General Baptist Church in Gray Ridge, MO for 40 plus years and retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation after 37 years as a permit specialist.
He is survived by one son, Mark (Danna) Thorne of Eureka, MO; one daughter, Renae Thorne of Dexter, MO; one brother, Eldon (Velda) Thorne of Patton, MO; three grandchildren, Peyton Thorne, Derek (Morgan) Masters, and Heather Ruedrich; and five great grandchildren, Zane Ruedrich, Katie McMillan, Tristen Masters, Brynleigh Masters and Layken Masters; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Long and one brother in law, Perry Long.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, MO where funeral services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with Tim Russell, pastor of The Lighthouse Church in Dexter, MO. officiating.
Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston, MO.
Pallbearers will be Blake Cook, Drew Thorne, Derek Masters, Tim Griffin, Wade Thorne and Scott Wheeler.
Honorary pallbearers will be Zane Ruedrich, Tristen Masters, and Nicholas Thorne Heisserer.
