Thank you Dan for the stories you shared with me about growing up as the brother of my Dad, Donnie. With Fathers Day just having passed Sunday I’m reminded of the heartfelt feelings of gratitude I’ve had all my life for the gift of being born into the Ford family and still have for you being the link to my father. Dad liked going to the Casino for the weekend when his birthday rolled around.  We'd eat at Minglewood Brewery and have a beer before hitting the fun road to gamble!  My Dad was a fine man.  I am proud to be his son and hope to follow the example he set for me. 


Knowing Dan was a privilege and a blessing.  I will miss him so much. 
I'm thankful I could say he was definitely a great friend of mine. 
My deepest condolences goes out to the family.  
I want to share this picture with you all. This is Dan's 85th birthday. I turn the candles around as a joke. He got a kick out of that.  He had a great sense of humor.

When in Sikeston from Little Rock every month or so Dan and I had coffee together and had long talks. He personally brewed a fresh pot of coffee and offered something to eat with a smile and a “help yourself”, to anyone who came to visit. He kept a clean and organized home, only recently having friend Barbara in to help with the house and Neice Amy stopping in regularly. Dan was respected and loved. Only 2 years younger than my father, Donnie, the two brothers grew up and ran around together. I was 11 months old and Mom was pregnant with Donnie JR when Dan’s brother Donnie was killed in a motorcycle accident. In recent years Dan told me stories about the two of them lovingly giving me memories I cherish and could have in no other way.  Thank you Dan for giving me memories of the Dad  I was too young to remember.
Dan was for the most part self-sufficient and knowledgeable in countless areas! When asked for advice on how to fix something around the house or handle a touchy situation with others, he’d offer practical suggestions. Dan was as sharp as a tack up till the end of his life. Here’s an example. Just days before he passed, after having coffee in his kitchen enjoying each other’s company that morning I discovered my cell phone was missing! Retracing my steps took me back to Dan’s house.  Amy had arrived and helped  look for my phone with no luck!  Dan, at age 85 said, “When you were here while ago you opened a drawer looking for Anne’s obituary so we could see how old she was when we got married. Did you look there yet?” Opened the drawer - there was the cell phone, just as Dan remembered. Incredible! I love you and miss you already Dan.  I believe we'll meet again on the other side. We’ll have a cup of coffee and catch up.
