He was born on February 25, 1939 in Cape Girardeau, MO. to the late Charles and Ethel Alliston Gardner.
On August 4, 1962 in Columbia, MO. he married Judy Murray Gardner who survives of the home in Sikeston, MO.
Charles having come from a farming family, was always involved in some way with agriculture. As a student in high school he traveled to Chicago as a representative of Future Farmers of America. After college he worked for several farm related companies. The last one being Farmers’ Mutual Hail Ins. Company of IA. as the Field Supervisor for Southeast Missouri and Arkansas.
He was a long time member of Missouri Athletic Scholarship Association for which he also served as Co-Chairman of MASA for Scott County, MO.
He enjoyed serving on the council at FUMC and also the DPS Advisory Board. All of his life he was involved in some way with sports, football, baseball and basketball. From college to the present he loved his Mizzou Tigers football. His other passion was the St. Louis Cardinals. One never dared get between him and the TV during a game. He also helped coach the Sikeston’s Sr. Babe Ruth league baseball team for a few years. He was involved with the formation of the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame which each year honored some old-timer baseball players of this area. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Thomas (Cindi) Gardner of Orlando, FL.; one brother, Larry (Dorothy) Gardner of Matthews, MO. and one granddaughter Ashleigh Ann Gardner of Orlando, FL.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, MO. with Jennifer Moxley, Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Sikeston, MO., officiating.
A private inurnment will be held at a later date in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston, MO.
