Anita Hodges, 78, of Sikeston, MO went home to be with her Savior on April 4th, 2021. She was born November 29th, 1942 in Sikeston, MO to the late William Carter and Faye (Chittenden) Bell. Anita grew up in Sikeston where she met and eventually married Ron Hodges in 1963 at Little Vine Baptist Church. While living in Sikeston, they attended Murray Lane Baptist Church and raised their two children, Cheryl and Greg. Anita worked at J.C. Penny for 20 years until she retired in 2003 and she and Ron continued to live in Sikeston until 2016 when they moved to Newburgh, IN to be closer to family.
Anita was active in the Sikeston, MO chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star where she held every office over her 60 years of membership. She enjoyed traveling to visit her family, especially her grandchildren, as well as going on vacations, reading, and cooking. She also loved playing games with, telling stories to, and watching her grandchildren compete and perform in multiple sports and activities.
Anita loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and followed biblical principles her whole life. She treated everyone she met with love and kindness and in turn was loved and cherished by all who met her. Her positive outlook and witty attitude always brought a positive light to any situation.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry & Martha Bell; brother, Anthony Bell; and nephew, Steven Bell.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald, of 58 years; her daughter, Cheryl (Kevin) Kerr; son, Greg (Terri) Hodges; brother, Bill Bell; and multiple nieces and nephews. Anita was affectionately known as Nana by her 12 grandchildren, their spouses, and other friends of the family: Alex (Sarah) Kerr; Abby (Zac) Frobeter; Alia, Amelia, Alayna, Abram, Adam, and Analise Kerr; Carter, Mason, and Sophia Hodges; and Jalen Scott.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 8th, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. until time of funeral service at 1:00 P.M. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, MO. Scott Hancock will officiate.
Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston, MO.
