BARR, Norman Oscar “G.G.” - 87, Shubenacadie/Truro, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on December 1, 2010, at the home of his daughter Sharon. Born on October 27, 1923 he was a son of the Richarson and Nettie (Haughn) Barr. Norman was a World War II Veteran. After leaving the Air Force, he worked as a milkman, farmer, construction worker, Imperial Oil employee than an agent ending his working career as a school bus driver. He will be sadly missed by daughter Sharon Pineo, Shubenacadie; son Wayne (Kim), Truro; grandchildren Jennifer Pineo (Dave), Pamela (Jason) Sutherland, Kevin Pineo (Tanya), great grandchildren Luke, Emma, Darian and Max; sister Lorna (Mel) MacPhee, sisters-in-law Lorna Barr, and Una Isenor, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Shirley (Isenor), son-in-law George, brothers Elmer and George, brother-in-law Ronald Isenor and sister-in-law Bessie Barr. During his years in Shubenacadie, Norman was involved in the Fire Brigade, of which he was a founding member, Lions Club, card marathons, and activities in St. James Anglican Church. In Truro he volunteered many years at the Stroke Club. He enjoyed cottage time in Cape John, playing cards, attending grandchildren’s activities and social time with family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Lorraine Pelly, Sue Gibbon, the dialysis units in Truro and Halifax, palliative care nurse Kathy, Rev. Lloyd Ripley and from the VON Janet, Jenny and John. Visitation 1-4pm, Saturday, December 4, 2010 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Hwy 2, Shubenacadie. A memorial service will be held in 2pm, Sunday at the St. James Anglican Church, Shubenacadie, Rev. Lloyd Ripley officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Mill Village. Reception to follow in the church hall. Family flowers only, donations in memory of Norman may be made to Brookside Cemetery, St. James Anglican Church or a charity of choice.
