HILLMAN, Gordon Edward – 87, Oakfield, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 in the QEII Hospital, Halifax. He was born January 12, 1925 in Faulkenburg, Ontario. He was the son of the late Viola (Green) and Alfred Hillman. Gordon is survived by his devoted and loving wife Shirley Jacqueline (Rock) Hillman; daughters Carol (Phil) Yaniw, Gail (Eric) Johnson, Nancy (Harry) Chamberlain, son Christopher Hillman, daughter Wendy (Todd) Annand-DeMerchant, son Rod (Shelley) Hillman, chosen daughter Lee (Patrick) DeRange, chosen son Rock (Lisa) Miller; sisters Joyce (George) Walling, Fay Buck, he is also survived by numerous grandchildren and many great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers William Hillman and Stanley Hillman, brother-in-law Ted Buck, son-in-law Allen Annand. He was a construction superintendant in Ontario for Robert McAlpine Ltd. and was transferred to Halifax, Nova Scotia where he was construction superintendant of Mic Mac Mall, Westend Mall, Maritime Centre and in 1980 was transferred to Sussex, New Brunswick to supervise the building of the Potash Mine. After returning to Nova Scotia in 1982 he was responsible for the addition on the Maritime Tel & Tel building and construction of the Miller Lake Department of Transportation facility. Gordon was for many years was a long standing member of Enfield and Elmsdale District Lions Club and also Sussex District Lions Club. He was also a member of the Enfield Legion Branch 133. He served in World War 11 as a gunner, in England, France, Belgium and Holland. Visitation for Gordon will be 6-8pm, Saturday, November 3, with a Legion Service at 7pm. A Lions Club Service will be held at 2pm, Sunday followed by the funeral service all in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Rev. Canon David Fletcher officiating.
