HOOPER, Douglas – 71, of Gays River passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Born in Dartmouth, he was the son of the late Leonard and Viola (Henley) Hooper. He retired from National Gypsum after 23 years and was a resident of Gays River for 38 years. He enjoyed singing and playing guitar, fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Douglas showed great strength during his brief illness. He will be sadly missed by his wife of fifty years Verlie, son Brian (Anne) Hooper, Hammonds Plains; daughter Michele, Gays River/Enfield; grandchildren Ben and Josh; brothers Leonard (Norma), Waverley; Wayne (Carolyn), Gays River; Gary (Nancy), Hammonds Plains. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. There will be no visitation by request. A service of celebration of his life will be held 2pm, Friday in the Gays River United Church, Lori Crocker DM officiating.
