William F. "Frank" Gordon

SHREVEPORT, LA – Frank Gordon took his first breath with his Savior Jesus on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 8:10 a.m. He was born in Haynes, Arkansas on March 19, 1935. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Earline Dupree Gordon, as well as by his father, John B. Gordon, mother, Geneva Gordon Howard, and brother, Johnny Gordon.

As a career serviceman in the United States Air Force, he served his country proudly. During his military career, he was an Airborne Radio Operator on a KC-97G. He ended his service as a Boom Operator on a KC 135 Strato Tanker. He loved to fly and for years maintained a membership at the Aero Club flying small planes. Frank was also a Vietnam Veteran.

After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the IRS, VA Hospital, and HUD. Upon retirement from government employment, he enjoyed his family time. His love knew no limits. He faithfully and lovingly cared for his wife at home until she succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease.

Following her death, he kept busy in his beautiful yard, exercising at Willis Knighton Pierremont Fitness Center, volunteering at the VA Hospital assisting staff with veterans; volunteering each fall at St. Luke’s Pumpkin Patch, and served on the Welcome Committee at Grace Community UMC. He was also quite a good baker, his pecan pies, chocolate cakes and cookies will be missed by all who were able to enjoy.

Big hearted, generous, kind and loving accurately describe his nature.

He left behind one daughter, Dona Gordon Amidon and husband, Dieter; grandson, Derrek Gordon Amidon and wife, Candace; grandson, Daniel John Amidon and wife, Brooklyn. Great-grandchildren are Jordan, Cole, Kaden, Cody, Colby, Emerson, McKayla, McKenzie, and Rylee. Also left to cherish his memory are a host of nieces and nephews, especially Luby Wade and Laura and Perri Dupree.

Paps, as he was affectionately known, was a good and decent man, loving husband and adoring father and grandfather.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Derrek and Daniel, great-grandsons, Kaden, Cody, Colby, and namesake, Frank Wade.

Services to honor Frank’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Jessica Lowe, Associate Pastor of Grace Community U.M.C. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
