Wanda departed this earth and is finally at rest with her Lord and Savior after battling lengthy illnesses. She was born in Vivian, LA in August, 1943. She grew up in the surrounding areas of Vivian, Belcher, Oil City, Lucas and Shreveport and attended Lakeshore Elementary and Fair Park High School. She married in May, 1959, and traveled with her military husband to his new assignments. She was able to visit Blytheville, AR, Puerto Rica, Dover Delaware, Andersen Guam, K.I. Sawyer Michigan and Barksdale AFB. While stationed at those bases she volunteered her time with the Red Cross and received several awards. Wanda never met a stranger and made friends everywhere she went and enjoyed every one of them. They retired from the military and continued to live in the Shreveport area. She was employed by the Caddo Parish School Board until she had to retire for health reasons.
Wanda was preceded in death by two sons, Steven and Kenneth Leach; parents, Aaron Elmore and Lorene Mitchell Elmore; and sister, Meda Elmore Campbell. Left to cherish the time they had with her is her husband of 52 1/2 years, Charles Leach; son, Alan Leach and his wife, Keri M. Pilgram Leach; granddaughters, Kelsey Rae and Kenzie Grace Leach;; and her sister, Linda Elmore Durr MacDonald; and special lifelong friend, Claudia Beene.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2011, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Allen officiating assisted by Rev. Robert Salts. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Friday evening between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
