Thelma Creech Richards of Lewisville, Texas passed away on June 29, 2016 at the age of 86. Thelma was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on November 6, 1929 to John Henry and Georgia L. Creech. She attended school in Shreveport, graduating from Byrd High School in 1946. She received her BA in Elementary Education in 1949 from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Thelma began her teaching career at the age of 19 in Caddo Parrish.
She married Don T. Richards on February 29, 1952, becoming an Air Force wife. Their Air Force life took them to Japan, Hawaii, Alabama, Texas and North Dakota. Shreveport was home to Thelma and the children while Don was in Okinawa and Viet Nam. She also continued her teaching career in Japan, Hawaii and Texas.
Upon retirement from the Air Force, the Richards founded Dunhill of Shreveport together. She served as an officer for 24 years before retiring a second time in 1998. Retirement allowed her to pursue her interest in antiques, an avocation she shared with her mother, Georgia.
She is survived by her husband Don Richards, of Lewisville, Texas; her brother, John Creech and sister-in- law, Joan Creech of Shreveport, Louisiana; her son, John Richards and daughter-in-law, Barbara Richards, of Denton, Texas; her daughter, Debra Richards of Coppell, Texas; her daughter, Lucy Kimble and son-in-law, Richard Kimble, of Coppell, Texas; seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in memory of Thelma Creech Richards be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
