She was the oldest of three daughters. She lost her mother at the age of 14 and she was instrumental in raising her two younger sisters, Sammie and Bobbie. She was a strong independent woman in body and spirit. She left home at 18 to go to Michigan to work as a “Rosie the Riveter”, a fact that she was proud of. She was a legal secretary for several different Federal Judges including, Tom Stagg, during her career.
In 1953 she married E.B. Jones and together had two daughters, Peggy and Jill, whom she was very proud of. She was an avid tennis player, continuing to be active until the age of 89, at the Indoor Courts Tennis Club at Pierremont, where she played with her awesome league buddies.
In 1963, her family became members of Southern Hills Church of Christ and formed lasting relationships that were strong until her last day. She loved God and her church will all her heart. She and E.B. loved to travel and made many friends along the way.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Peggy Huckeba (Ronnie) and Jill Goldsberry; stepdaughter, Pam Voss; sister, Sammie Stakemiller (Leo); grandchildren, Hope Ballentine (John), Jeb Huckeba (Jami), Brad Kuretich, and Jordan Huckeba (Sara); step-grandchildren, Amy Allen (Jason) and Chad Freeman (Tami); along with her great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, E.B., parents, and her sister, Bobbie Hodges.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to make donations to Southern Hills Church of Christ in honor of Ms. Thelma.
