Keithville, La.- Sandra Lackey Bellar, 74, was born on April 7, 1941 in Detroit Michigan and passed away on December 31, 2015 in Bossier City Louisiana. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Tuesday, January 5, 2016, 4 P.M. at Lakeview United Methodist, 5550 South Lakeshore Dr., Shreveport, LA.
Sandra attended LSUS and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism where Mrs. Bellar began working for the Shreveport Journal. Mrs. Bellar retired from the Shreveport Journal then became an educator. She taught English and Drama at Friendship Academy before coming to work for the Caddo Parish School Board. Mrs. Bellar taught at Byrd High School and Broadmoor Middle School. Mrs. Bellar gave up her full time teaching positions, but not her love for educating. She was a permanent fixture at Keithville Elementary Middle School, Magnet High School and The Caddo Career and Technology Center where she substituted as much as possible. She also taught adult education and citizenship classes in the evenings at Centenary College. After 40 years in education, she decided to stay home to be a caregiver to grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Sandra was a devout Christian and a longtime member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Shreveport. Mrs. Bellar was a 47 year member of the Elks Lodge #122 in Shreveport. Mrs. Bellar was a talented clarinet player and loved music. She played clarinet for the Byrd Alumni Band, the Shreveport Metropolitan Band, and was a current member of the Broadmoor Baptist Orchestra.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Janet Lackey and her husband of 53 years, Monroe Lawson Bellar, Jr. Left to cherish wonderful memories are her three children, Michael Lawson Bellar and his wife Sherry of Tyler, Texas, David Sanford Bellar and his wife Barbra of Shreveport, and SueEllen Bellar Coleman and husband John Timothy of Keithville; sibling John Lackey of Bellingham, WA; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; two step granddaughters and 4 step great grandchildren; and a special life-long friend Beth Foster. Mrs. Bellar is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, band mates and friends. She loved to share her memories of teaching and playing music.
