Dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Ronald Gene Stroope, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022, after a long battle with kidney and liver disease. He left this world to be with his Savior while surrounded by the family he loved and adored.
Ronald was born to Horace and Mary Ann Stroope in El Dorado, AR on May 23, 1950. He graduated from Airline High School in 1969 before attending Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie, TX. After college, he sang and played guitar with the Vessels. This was a period he would often reflect on when telling stories to his children and grandchildren. During this time, he met and married his beloved Anna Jean (AJ) in March of 1971. This was also the period when he began his 30-year career working for Arkla Gas.
In January of 1974, the first of his two best friends were born, his son Shawn Stroope. Six years later, the second treasure of his heart, Chris Stroope, came into this world. In his later years, Ron was blessed with the apples of his eyes. His grandchildren would enter his life and jumpstart his world. He would spend many years with them playing, singing, working on computers, creating podcasts, taking pictures, and developing hobbies based around their interests. Those grandchildren would go on to make him a great grandfather, for which he was abundantly grateful.
Through the years, Ron enjoyed being part of the Shreveport Amateur Radio Association, working in his vegetable gardens, playing his guitars, and spending time with his family. One thing he was especially proud of was establishing the first Coffee and Ham gathering for local Ham Radio operators.
Ron is preceded in death by his father, Horace Stroope. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Anna Jean Lewis Stroope; his mother, Mary Ann Stroope; his brother, Sam Stroope and wife Glaucia, his son, Shawn Stroope and wife Sarah; his son, Chris Stroope and fiancé Tiffany Vincent; his grandson, Peyton Stroope and son Kai; his granddaughter, Caitlyn Free and husband Micah, along with their children Brooklyn, Blakely, and Beaux; and his youngest grandson, Parker Stroope.
A Visitation for Ron will be held Sunday, October 30, 2022 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Darrell Evans officiating. Interment will take place at Centuries Memorial Park. Honoring the family as pallbearers will be Peyton Stroope, Parker Stroope, Micah Free, Ragan Burns, Robert Allen Mackey III, and Mike Ketchens.
Ron’s wife, Anna Jean, would like to say a special thank you to all the doctors and nurses who have supported her and Ron through this journey, especially those at the Northwest Louisiana Dialysis Center. They made many hard days less arduous.
