Stonewall, LA
Services honoring the life of Rodney Lane Roach, 52, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 9, 2012, at Summer Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Rod Mastellar officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park.
Rodney was born September 1, 1959, in Shreveport, to James Harold and Gwendolyn Taylor Roach and went home to be with the Lord on August 6, 2012. He was a faithful member of Summer Grove Baptist Church. Rodney was a devoted husband and father. He was proud of his children, adored his grandchildren, and loved his wife dearly. Rodney grew up in Summer Grove and graduated from Southwood High School. He joined the Shreveport Fire Department in September 1978. Most of his time on the fire department was at Station #17 in Summer Grove. He loved the men he worked with and the people he served. Rodney made friends with everyone he met and was always fun to be around. He was a great story teller and had countless stories of experiences working as a fireman. Before joining the fire department he went to Oklahoma Horseshoeing School and shod horses as a side job. In 1987 he built Double R Arena in Stonewall. He began having weekly rodeos in the spring of 1988, and they continued year round for 22 years. He loved participating in team roping and bucking bulls. Many times he put on benefit bull ridings and rodeos to raise money to help people with special needs. He moved his family from Shreveport to Stonewall (God’s country) in 2000 and began raising cattle and baling hay. In October 2007, he retired from the fire department with 29 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving him is his wife of 33 years, Becky; son, Dusty and Nicole; daughter, Katie Pearson and David; son, Taylor and Jennifer; grandchildren, Ben, Libbie, and Charlie; brother, James Roach, Jr. and Dinah; sister, Beth Childs and Jay; aunt, Elaine Talbert; “kinda” sister, Ruthie Dunn and Joe; mother and father-in-law, Barbara and Madison Box; sister-in-law, Lisa Box; many special cousins, aunts, nieces, and nephews.
