Robert was born on February 8, 1938 in Linden, TX and passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on June 29, 2010. He has been a longtime resident of this area. Robert graduated from Fair Park High School in 1957. After graduation he went to work for the original Poulan plant on Greenwood Rd. He started working in the machine shop and foundry. In 1959 the company was known as Beaird-Poulan and he was promoted to industrial engineer and supervisor. In 1973 the company changed again and was sold to Emerson Electric Co. and he became the Plant Superintendent. In 1986 Emerson sold to Electrolux and Robert worked as warehouse manager and distribution manager until he retired. Robert retired after 47 years of service, which is proof to the kind of dedicated and hard working man that he was. It is said in the book of Matthew 13: 5-8; Some sow their seed on stone and some sow on thorns and they do not prosper; some sow in good soil and prosper hundred times over. Robert was a man that sowed in good soil and prospered. He was a man of strong will and determination to succeed in life.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martha Sue Waldron; brother, Howard Dodd and nephew, Duane Dodd.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jean Dodd; sons, Robert Dodd, Jr. and Bryan Dodd; daughters, Shelia Howell, Tammy Holbrook and husband Todd, Amanda Arnold and husband Reno; sister, Carolyn “Toots” Roach; brothers, Earl N. “Newt” Dodd, Sr. and wife Jaque, Smith Dodd, Jr.; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
