Shreveport, LA- Funeral services celebrating the life of Richard Alan Lary, 49, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church. Officiating will be Bro. Mike Stowell. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church.
Richard Alan Lary loving husband, Dad, son, brother, uncle, and cousin passed away on April 25, 2015 after suffering a heart attack. Richard was from Montgomery, LA and graduated from Northwestern State University in 1987.
Richard was a long-time teacher & coach in Caddo Parish. He student taught at Southwood High School before coaching football and softball full-time at Woodlawn High School. He also coached football & softball at Huntington High School and C.E. Byrd High School. In 2009, Richard achieved his lifelong dream of being a head coach when he was named head football coach at Captain Shreve High School where he remained until his untimely death. Attending Shreve sporting events was a family affair and his whole family fell in love with the school. He was thrilled to have his daughter, Ally, at the Swamp with him this year and was counting down the years for Camryn to join them.
Coach made so many impressions on students and athletes over the years. He taught them many life lessons on and off the field. Coach seemed to always be in a good mood. He never met a stranger and was always cracking jokes and assigning nicknames.
He is preceded in death by his Dad, Alva Roy Lary, his sister, Martha Lynn Lary, and mother-in-law, Ann Booty. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Booty Lary; daughters, Ally Grace and Camryn Sloan; his Mom, Joann Lary; his father-in-law, Ronnie Booty; sisters-in-law, Leigh Woodruff and Lesley Amos; nieces and nephews, Abby and Jaci Woodruff, and Reagan and David Amos.
Pallbearers will be Darrel Reeves, Mike Green, Toby Todd, Mitch Fant, Ken Hale, and Mark Lambert. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Captain Shreve football team and coaching staff.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Captain Shreve Gridiron Club to help fund Coach's plans for the field house.
