Rhonda Joan Fletcher Carter, a loving woman of countless virtues and a friend to all, left this world suddenly on Christmas night, 2021, to rest in eternal splendor with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her gracious endeavors will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew her throughout her sixty-year lifetime.
She was born in Urania, Louisiana, to David and Virginia Fletcher on March 19, 1961. She was blessed to have in her life a large family whose warmth contributed to her tender heart as she grew up among those she loved. Rhonda met Joe Carter at LSUS in the late 1970s and the two were married on August 18th, 1980, in Marshall, Texas. Together, they had two daughters: April Kathleen and Amanda Joan.
Throughout her life, Rhonda continued to grow in grace and spirit and worked to fulfill her dreams of becoming a passionate occupational therapist. She wore many hats outside of her profession, dedicating herself to her roles of being a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, just to name a few. Even while fighting disabilities later in life, she always found time to remember her loved ones across long distances and time spent apart.
She became known for many other admirable qualities: her wonderful culinary skills, deep sense of empathy, unmatched love for all animals, endearing sense of humor, unabashed vulnerability, unending generosity, and her enduring faith in Jesus. Her table was never too full for another seat, nor her hands too busy to help another. The coffee pot was always on and her heart was always open.
She has now reunited with her late husband in Heaven, and is survived by her mother, Virginia Elaine Heflin; her daughters, April Kathleen Carter Land and Amanda Joan Carter; her sisters, Marion Sanders, Liz Ferguson, Kerri Harrist, Robyn Blaylock, Katie Heflin Foshee, and Heather Heflin; her brothers, Charles Heflin and William Heflin; and her grandsons, Jonathan Carter, Tyler Land, and Tristan Land.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, January 15th, 2022, at 3:00 P.M. with a gathering of family and friends taking place from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. and both will take place at Hill Crest Memorial - Blanchard Chapel, 356 Warriner Ave, Shreveport, LA. The celebration will be as unconventional and down to earth as Rhonda was with an open platform for all who wish to speak. Please join us as we share our hearts with one another and remember the woman who always remembered us.
