Funeral services for Ralph Wilson Turner, Sr., 97, will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Officiating will be Mr. Raymond T. Boswell. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 from 6-8 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Turner passed away on February 5, 2011 at Live Oak Retirement Community. He was born on January 9, 1914 in Dubberly, LA, and lived in Shreveport for all of his adult life. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Best described as a successful entrepreneur, he was involved in many enterprises, among them being a cattle rancher, land developer and home builder. He was a member of Caddo Lodge No. 179 F&AM, El Karubah Shrine, VFW and Shreveport Scottish Rite Valley.

After his retirement he and his late wife thoroughly enjoyed traveling the entire US and Canada with their WBBCI Airstream Travel friends. For many years, he was a member of the Noel Memorial United Methodist Men’s Sunday School Class. He later attended First Baptist Church of Shreveport.

Mr. Turner is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Gladys MaGouirk Turner.

Left to cherish beautiful memories of Ralph are his two sons, Ralph “Chip” Turner, Jr. and wife Sandra of Fort Worth, TX and Randall Turner and wife Kathleen of Covington, LA; four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, Chris and Patti Turner, Caleb, Ryan and Payton of Margate, FL; Cory and Keri Turner, Elijah and Ezra of Gonzales, LA; Thomas and Tara Jacks, Collin, David, Clay and Kate of Mandeville, LA; Michael and Meghan Scarlato, Sarah and Beth of Meridian, MS.

The family appreciates and especially thanks his nephew, Roy Fair, for his extraordinary care.

Honoring Mr. Turner as pallbearers will be Roy Fair, Hartwell Fair, Sandy Collins, Max Green, Keith McDonald, Caleb Turner, Ryan Turner and Collin Jacks.
