Peggy Wootton Weaver, beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, went to be with her Heavenly Father on April 3, 2024, at the age of 89. She rejoiced in Christ her Savior to the very end and rested her soul in His finished work on the cross. Peggy was born on January 20, 1935, to Roy Thomas and Gracie Mae Wootton of Lewisville, Arkansas. She was the oldest of nine siblings and has described her home as being so country that you had to pipe sunshine in. Her childhood consisted of helping raise her siblings, attending school, and helping on the family farm.
Reflecting on her life, Peggy believed that God’s providential hand was directing her in all aspects of her life. When she was 16, she left home and moved into Lewisville proper and began working at a cafe while earning her own money, all while she attended high school. She graduated from Lewisville High School in 1953 with the honor of homecoming queen. Peggy followed her dream and moved to Shreveport, La., and began studying for the Meadows Draughn Business School. She lived at the Business Girls Inn and had a nice social life. She began working for the Southwestern Transportation Company as a secretary and enjoyed it very much. In 1954, one of her friends suggested that she go out on a blind date with Bo Weaver and the rest was history. They married on November 27, 1954. They built a home and settled into Southern Hills and began raising their family. She helped Bo in the family carwash business. God blessed them with three daughters, Karen, Pat and Pam. Homemaking was Peggy's delight, entertaining many friends with her delicious recipes. A celebration was not complete without one of her delicious strawberry cakes or the dessert of your choice. Her children and grandchildren never came home without having the cookie jar filled with homemade tea cakes. Peggy brought so much happiness and joy to her family and friends. At Christmas time, she would design and decorate gingerbread houses which she shared with others and the Shreveport Times wrote about how pretty they were. She and Bo raised their children at Summer Grove Baptist Church where they served for many years and met many lifelong friends.
In later years, she attended Shreveport Grace Church where she rejoiced in hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified. After Bo passed away in 1989, Peggy sold the businesses and began traveling the South, attending plays in NYC and seeing the beautiful fall foliage in New England. She especially loved the mountains, fall foliage, beautiful sunset, and clouds in the bright blue sky. She remained in the family home until 2016, when she moved to the Gables at Spring Lake, making new friends, and sharing her love of clothes, makeup, jewelry, coffee, and desserts. In 2023, she moved to the Glen Nursing Home and began a new chapter. When asked recently about her favorite things in life she said that it was raising her family, traveling, baking cookies, going garage sales with the grandchildren, and enjoying the "birthday gals group." She was especially fond of flower gardening and tending to her beautiful yard.
She is survived by two brothers, Bob Wootton (Mary) of Arcola, TX, and Joe Wootton, (Libby) of Pearland, TX; and one sister, Bessie Wootton of NC; Her three children, Karen Weaver Getsinger (Larry) of Shreveport, LA, Pam Weaver Carter (Mike) of Keithville, LA, and Pat Weaver Baird (David) of Jackson, MS; Six grandchildren, Ashley Boon (Brian) of Lincoln, NE, Callie Armstrong of Shreveport, LA, Hannah Carter Dupre (Greg) of Prairieville, LA, Grace McKenzie Baird of Dallas, TX, and Weaver McMillan Baird (Mac) of Austin, TX. Three great-grandchildren, Bryson Michael Boon, Braylee Jo Boon of Lincoln, NE and Sloane Elaine Dupre of Prairieville, LA.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Gables and The Glen for their loving care, especially her good friends and caretakers, Shaun Dawson and Mary Short.
Hebrews 12:2 "Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith; Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."
