Mildred gave her heart and life to Jesus at the age of 20. She graduated from East Texas Baptist College with a major in music and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Masters Degree in Religious Education. It was there she met a young preacher boy, Bob Gordon who she married and served faithfully beside in ministry for 66 years. She will be remembered for her love of God, devotion to prayer, and studying her Bible, playing the piano and singing hymns, scrap-booking, coloring, picking up pine cones, making the best chocolate chip cookies, enjoying her favorite food group - chocolate, and loving her neighbors, friends, and family extravagantly.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Rev. and Mrs. John P. Fortenberry; husband, Rev. Robert (Bob) Gordon, Sr.; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fortenberry, Sr.; nephew, Walter Fortenberry, Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard (Josephine) Gordon, Sr.; brother-in-law, Leonard Gordon, Jr. and wife, June, and sister-in-law, Betty Gil.
She is survived by her four children, Tim Gordon (Susan), Bonnie Jones (Charlie), Steve Gordon (Lois), Bobby Gordon (Angie), and sister, Bessie Fortenberry. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren.
