Mattie Margell Morgan Hawkins

Mattie Margell Morgan Hawkins of West Monroe, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was born February 1, 1926 in Haynesville, Louisiana to Oscar Paul Morgan and Margie Stephens Morgan.

In her school years, she excelled, receiving an Award of Honor for Superior Scholarship and Good Citizen Traits and the Louisiana Department of Education Gold Star Literacy Award. She was a devoted wife for 53 years to Herman Lloyd Hawkins. She showed a dedication to her marriage and her marriage vows. As a devoted homemaker one of her most notable talents was making the best chocolate pie you have ever tasted.

She had a dry wit and a sense of humor that was defining, making her very memorable to anyone she met. She had a heart of a servant and was mindful of others. Margell always thought of others, putting their needs before her own. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Hilda Thompson of Amarillo, TX; brother, Oscar Paul Morgan II of Kansas City, KS; daughter, Kim Shackelford and husband Jeremy Shackelford of West Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Donna George and husband, Robbie George of Calhoun, LA, Morgan Fagone and husband, Chris Fagone of Baltimore, MD, Meagan Shackelford and husband Travis Odom of Seminole, AL, and Micah Shackelford of West Monroe,LA, and nine great grandchildren, Aaron George, Adam George, Tobi Robichaux, AnnaBeth George, Kaden Robichaux, Camron Robichaux, Jordan Robichaux, Jackson Odom and Fitzgerald Odom.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, her son, Gregory Lloyd Hawkins and parents.

A graveside for Margell will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108. Bobby Stokes will officiate the services. She will be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Park.
