A family service celebrating the life of Mary Jewel Tillery Terry will be held on August 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Centuries Memorial Park. Officiating will be her former pastor, John Higginbotham.
Mary was born in Waterloo, Arkansas on December 26, 1924 and was a lifelong resident of Shreveport until her death on August 10, 2023. She graduated as Valedictorian from Terrebonne High School in Houma, Louisiana and Soule' Business College in New Orleans. After holding several secretarial positions, Mary became the secretary at Lakeshore Jr. High School for 21 years.
The love of Mary's life was her husband, Snow Terry. They were married for 75 years. She enjoyed family trips, traveling with Snow and working in her beautiful flower gardens. Mary loved entertaining her family and friends with parties and dinners. She was in several Bridge groups and The Halcyon Club. She was a longtime member of Mangum Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Snow, her father, Grady J. Tillery, mother, Martha McGuire Tillery, brother, Grady A. Tillery, sisters-in-law, Joel Tillery and LaViece Pedro, her mother-in-law, Clara Mae Tillery and her father-in-law, C. M. Terry.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Ron Terry and his wife, Traci of Westcliffe, Colorado, her daughter, Cheryl "Sherry" Thompson of Shreveport, Louisiana, her granddaughter, Holly Callaway Doyal and her husband, David of Benton, Louisiana and her great grandchildren, Bailey and Max Doyal of Benton, Louisiana, her nephews, Kim Tillery and Wray Pedro, great niece, Kimberly Curtis and her husband, Kevin and their children, Luke and Maisie, along with several cousins.
Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of Mom's doctors, nurses and PAs for their care through the years. We appreciate the devotion shown by the staff of Azalea Estates Assisted Living, the loving and compassionate staff of Point of Grace Medical Services, especially her main caregiver, Bennie Odums, Golden Gate Nursing Services and STAT Home Health. Toward the end of Mom's life, she was blessed with the attentive care of the staff of St. Joseph Hospice, especially her nurse, Sarah Susilovich. We are thankful for all of her friends through the years for their love and kindness shown to Mom.
