SHREVEPORT, LA – Mary Allen Robinson Smith, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at The Oaks of Louisiana, where she has resided for the past few years. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Centuries Memorial Park, officiated by Reverend Andrew Comeaux. Visitation for family and friends will be held in the chapel of Centuries Memorial Funeral home beginning at 12:15 p.m. prior to the service.
Mary Allen was born on April 11, 1928, in Shreveport, LA to Dr. Edward Christopher Robinson and Mary Kemper Allen Robinson. She attended Creswell School and graduated from C.E. Byrd High School and Centenary College. While at Centenary College, she became a member of Chi Omega Fraternity and was also selected as a beauty in the Yoncopin yearbook. She was also a life-long member of First Baptist Church Shreveport.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edward Christopher “Kit” Robinson, Jr.; infant son, Richard Christopher Smith; and husband of 59 years, John Richard Smith. She is survived by her son, John Allen Smith and wife, Bitsy; daughter, Sallie Elizabeth Florsheim and husband, Brian; three grandchildren, Jennifer Christine Smith Brackett and husband, Jason of Hiram, Maine, Brian Edmund Florsheim, Jr., and Sallie Elizabeth Florsheim, both of Shreveport; and one great-granddaughter, Arwen Gwenivere Brackett.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff and nurses of the North Pavilion, at the Oaks of Louisiana, where she was treated with much kindness. A special word of thanks is extended to her devoted sitter and friend, Tuwanna Carter. We would also like to thank her physician, Dr. David Abdehou and his staff.
