Mary Donie Culver Rivers of Shreveport, Louisiana, went to be with her heavenly Father on May 27, 2021 at the age of 79. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, June 4th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Centuries Memorial in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Mary was born in Arcadia, Louisiana on April 10, 1942, the 13th of 14 children of Fred Cleveland and Magnolia (Maggie) Pyle Culver. All have preceded her in death. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years, Garland Rivers, daughter, Sonia Cox (Patrick) of Benton, Louisiana, son Joseph Rivers (Khristine) of Bossier City, Louisiana, daughter Wendy Southard (William) of Eagle River, Alaska, 7 grandchildren, Matthew Cox, Emily Cox Dillon, Edda Rivers, Mary Rivers Wines, Benjamin Rivers, William Southard, Jr., and Garrett Southard, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary worked as a Teacher’s Aid for the Caddo Parish School Board for 20 years. She took great pride in helping educate children. After retiring from the school board, she decided she wasn’t ready to stay home full-time, so she started a second career as a bookkeeper and worked an additional 10 years for her son-in-law, Pat, at Air Pro Heating & Cooling Systems.
Mary loved the simple things life had to offer, the colors of springtime, conversation, reading,
and playing all kinds of games, especially Bingo. She was very talented, making clothes for her girls when they were young, crocheting, and canning fruits and vegetables from their large garden. She was an excellent cook who loved to feed her family, especially her grandchildren. She was actively involved at St. Pius X school when her children attended there, and she was a long-time member of the Ladies Guild at St. Pius X church.
She wanted it known that she had a blessed, happy life and a wonderful marriage to a good man. She was the best wife and mother anyone could have asked for. She will be remembered for her generous, loving heart and was a favorite to all who knew her.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church Ladies Guild.
May the angels lead you into paradise;
may the martyrs greet you at your arrival
and lead you into the holy city, the new and eternal Jerusalem.
May you have eternal rest.
